How to Clean Plastic Skylights

Plastic skylights allow lovely natural light to flow in, brightening your home. To keep the light streaming in you should clean plastic skylights – inside and out – twice a year. Regular cleaning will also maintain and protect the surface.

What you’ll need:

  • A drop cloth
  • Protective eyewear
  • Broom
  • Soft, clean, lint-free cloths
  • Glass cleaner
  • To protect the floor beneath the skylight, cover it with the drop cloth when cleaning.
  • Put on your protective eyewear.
  • Use the broom to wipe the surface of any dust and cobwebs.
  • Attach a clean cloth to the broom (TIP: duct tape comes in handy for this!).
  • Liberally spray the cloth with glass cleaner.
  • Take the broom with attached cloth and wipe clean the internal surface of the skylight.
  • Replace the grubby cloth with a fresh one to wipe the surface dry. This will prevent water spots appearing on your nice clean skylight.
